There was a tremendous atmosphere at stadium with the two sets of fans chanting and singing together.

The fixture was part of MTFC Supporters Society birthday party celebrations.

Merthyr player manager Gavin Williams was named among the substitutes as the Southern League Premier club continued their preparations for the new season.

Joe Perry, the son for former Cardiff City defender Jason, was in goal for Merthyr.

Merthyr Town: Joe Perry, Adam Davies, Scott Tancock, Ashley Evans (capt), Kyle Patten, Matthew Harris, Tom Meechan, Lee Lucas, Ryan Prosser, Kerry Morgan, Ian Traylor. Subs: Miles John, Craig Reddy, Corey Jenkins, Lee Price, Dan Dima, Charlie Loss, Gavin Williams, Jordan Jones.

Merthyr lost 1-0 against Briton Ferry Llansawel in their previous pre-season match at Penydarren Park.

Centre-half Lee Bevan’s header from a Gavin Jones corner sealed the win on the hour.

A strong BFL squad included new signings Conah McFenton, Luke Sylvester, Bevan, Warren Hudson and Jones.

The Martyrs started the game with a mix of youth and fringe players and the Reds were on top.

Merthyr saved all their big guns for the second half with first team regulars Matthew Harris, Kerry Morgan, Gavin Williams, Corey Jenkins, Scott McDonell and top scorer Ian Traylor all going on.

Merthyr play Carmarthen Town at home on Monday (July 16, 7.30pm) and Llanelli Town on Tuesday, July 24 (7.30pm).

Ticket prices will be £5 adults, £3 senior citizens, students plus 16-18 year olds, £1 under-16s.
