Merthyr Town football secretary Jamie Mack will step down from his role at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Mack has held the role for nine seasons, beginning when the club reformed in 2010 as Merthyr Town FC.
He told club chairman Jonathon Davies and manager Gavin Williams that he wishes to take a break from the role due to other commitments early this week and then met with the club’s board.
Merthyr will begin the process to replace Mack shortly and would like the successor to be confirmed before the end of the season so that the new secretary can shadow him over the final games of the season as part of the transition.
Mack will also support his successor over the summer in preparation for the new season to make the process as smooth as possible.
“This is not a decision I have taken lightly,” he says. “It is something I have been thinking about for two years, but the timing was never right.
“Now feels as good a time as any to step down with a new board in place taking the club forward.
“I’ve enjoyed the role and got a lot from it over the years. You see things in a different way.
“My thanks to the management teams of the club over the last nine years along with players, supporters, staff and the various board members and others who have helped during this time.
“I will still be at games and happy to continue doing the social media bits and pieces, but in terms of the secretary it’s time for a change.”
Chairman Davies said: “It is with great regret that the board accept Jamie’s decision to step down. Jamie has made the role his own. “The work he has done behind the scenes as a volunteer is beyond commendable.
“He has been instrumental in the running of the first team and youth team and will be greatly missed.”
First team manager Gavin Williams also wanted to go on record to thank Jamie on behalf of the players, staff and himself, saying: “Jamie has been an integral part of my team. I thank him for all the hours he’s put in.
“People don’t realise how much he does behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of operations home and away. He’s leaving big shoes to fill and we appreciate all his efforts.”
Merthyr’s next two EvoStik Southern League matches are at home, against Harrow Borough on Saturday and Dorchester Town next Tuesday. Both matches are at the MetCoaches Community Stadium.
The Martyrs are still pressing hard in a bid to claim a play-off spot, but need to win those two fixtures to close in on clubs above them.
Merthyr Town have 11 League fixtures left, six of those at home.
