Keates Apologises After Wrexham Suffer More Agony At Fylde

Dean Keates admitted Wrexham performance in the 2-0 National League defeat at Fylde was their worst of the season. The Dragons saw their 11-match unbeaten league run ended at the ground where they crashed out of the FA Cup 10 days ago.

Dean Keates admitted Wrexham’s performance in the 2-0 National League defeat at Fylde was their worst of the season.

The Dragons saw their 11-match unbeaten league run ended at the ground where they crashed out of the FA Cup 10 days ago.

Keates admitted of Tuesday’s setback: “It wasn’t an off night. It was by far the worst performance of the season and I can only apologise to the fans – an unbelievable following.

“You can look at reasons why. We’ve had a good chat in there. A few people have got a few things off their chest.

“We’d gone 11 games unbeaten in the league, a good result at the weekend and we came here with standards, and that was nowhere near.”

Wrexham had gone into the game buoyed by Saturday’s victory at promotion rivals Dagenham & Redbridge.

But Jonny Smith gave the home side an early lead after Dragons keeper Chris Dunn could only parry Danny Rowe’s free-kick.

And Jack Muldoon late solo effort ensured Wrexham another sorry trip to the Lancs coast as they suffered a fourth defeat of the campaign.

But Keates’ side remained in third place three points behind new leaders Dover after Macclesfield lost at Dagenham & Redbridge.
