Chris Holroyd and Scott Boden are together again – and they’re gunning for goals to keep Wrexham in the promotion chase.
The two strikers played alongside each other for Boden’s home-town club Macclesfield and now they are leading the Dragons’ charge.
Yorkshireman Holvey, 31, fired a hat-trick in Wrexham’s 4-0 home win against Dover Athletic, and took his tally for the season to 11.
“That was a good day for everybody,” said Holvey. “There were positive signs we are progressing as an attacking team and it felt good for the team to score four goals.
“Personally, I was delighted to score a hat-trick, but this isn’t about me. We are a team, we want promotion and we are feeling confident.
“Yes, we’d like to be even higher in the table, but we have a game in hand and everything is positive.”
Wrexham, who are fourth in the Vanarama Conference, don’t have a fixture this weekend because of FA Trophy ties and they went out against Harrogate Town.
The next match for the Dragons is at Hartlepool next Saturday (January 20), while they are at home against Tranmere Rovers a week later.
Boden has played the full 90 minutes in five of the last six Wrexham matches, missing the Boxing Day draw at Barrow because of illness.
“I honestly, genuinely can’t tell you when I last played five 90 minutes back to back and that is no lie,” said Boden. “I’ve scored a couple of goals and I want more.
“We are winning games and I enjoy being part of that winning team and winning environment. It is massive for us and massive for the club.
“It is frustrating, not scoring as many as you’d like, but when Chris scores a hat-trick there is nobody more happy for him than me.
“It is four or five years since I played alongside Chris at Macclesfield and I feel we link up really well.”
Manager Dean Keates needs to strengthen his attacking options following the departures of loan signings Ntumba Massanka (to Burnley) and George Miller (to Middlesbrough).
Teenager Miller, 19, has made it clear he wants to return to Wrexham and says: “Maybe one day I will be back here, not in the distant future.”
Former Bury player Miller didn’t score for Wrexham during their one month loan, saying: “I have been doing work off the ball and that has been helping the lads out.
“I will keep doing that if we keep scoring goals. When I am stretching defences, that makes gaps for Scott and Chris to get on the ball and do their magic. I’m happy with that.
“It would have been nice to score, but I have really enjoyed it at Wrexham. When you have 4,000 fans egging you on you get a bit of a buzz.
“I love it and I want more of it.”
Wrexham are seven points behind league leaders Macclesfield Town with a game in hand. They will stay in that position because there are only three Vanarama National League fixtures and none of them involve the too seven clubs.
Tranmere Rovers, who are eighth, travel to Woking and could move to within one point of Wrexham.
The other two fixtures are AFC Fylde v Guiseley and Torquay United v Eastleigh.
