Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski wants Francesco Guidolin to stay on as head coach next season.
The Poland international believes Guidolin has steadied the ship in a rocky campaign and would like to see him given the chance to continue.
Guidolin’s short-term contract runs out at the end of the season and although the Italian is keen to remain in Wales, it appears chairman Huw Jenkins is in no rush to open talks over a new deal.
But Fabianski said: “It’s not really up to me to decide, but I do really like him and I enjoy working with him.
“It’s obviously a club decision, but he’s done a really good job for us and helped us a lot. If he was here next season, that would be great.
“I think he gave us belief and the freedom to express ourselves – to play positive football, which is the best way possible.”
With former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers still favorite to return to the Liberty Stadium for a second spell, 61-year-old Guidolin’s tenure looks insecure – particularly since the Swans have lost 3-0 to Newcastle and then 4-0 to Leicester City following details of their proposed sale to American speculators emerged.
Fabianski has admitted that a season that began with such promise and anticipation has not run to course.
“It didn’t go the way we wanted, that’s for sure. After a very good start, we went on a really bad run. There have been a lot of ups and downs.
“I think there is a challenge for us in the matches left to show we have turned things around and prove we can play against the good teams.
If you look at some of our recent games, we have done well. We’ve played good football and picked up important points.”
Neither does Fabianksi – who will face Liverpool on Sunday at the Liberty Stadium and will feature for Poland at the Euro 2016 finals in France this summer – excuse himself from the malaise that has afflicted the squad this season.
“It hasn’t been great, I would say. It’s been tough. There have been some good moments, but some bad moments, too. It has been a good experience, though, especially after the first season I had here.
“To find ourselves in a different situation, and try to handle that, has been good experience for me. Hopefully, it will help to develop as a keeper.”
