Christian Edwards will be demanding an improved performance as he takes his Cardiff Met side to Newtown tonight (7.45).
Edwards was left disappointed after his side turned in a sub-par performance against Aberystwyth in front of the live television cameras on Saturday.
A depleted Met side were held to a 1-1 draw after Eliot Edwards’ well-struck free-kick was cancelled out.
Cardiff Met were let off the hook on more than one occasion as Aberystwyth spurned a host of chances which left Edwards questioning his side’s focus following the game, having already secured their top-six spot.
Already missing star striker Adam Roscow, Christian Edwards was dealt a fresh injury blow when Dan Spencer came off following a nasty collision and is unlikely to make the trip to mid-Wales.
The Students have a lengthy list of injuries to content with as they head into Phase 2 of the league season.
Influential skipper Charlie Corsby, defensive duo Emlyn Lewis and Bradley Wooldridge and midfielder Will Evans remain doubts while Roscow is targeting a return for the League Cup final later this month.
Newtown meanwhile could hand a start to midfielder Alex Fletcher. Fletcher re-joined the club from Southport last week and came off the bench in the Robins’ 3-1 defeat at Bangor City.
That defeat dashed any lingering hopes that Newtown might have had of making the top-six but the club are gearing up to make a positive impact in Phase 2’s Play-Off Conference and manager Chris Hughes remains keen to add to his squad.
“We are looking at one or two signings possibly coming in over the next week or so,” he confirmed.
“We have a good working relationship with the board, and in terms of transfers things have to be right.
“It might mean that some faces have to leave for others to come in, but some may want to leave to get more football elsewhere.
“Those are the parameters that we have to work in here, and we are aware of that.”
