Graham Barrow admits he is baffled by Wrexham failure to score goals in 2019.

Manager Barrow is scratching his head after the Dragons have gone more than eight hours without a goal since the new year and suffered five successive defeats.

Four of those fixtures were Vanarama National League games, while Wrexham crashed out of the FA Trophy 1-0 at home to Leyton Orient.

During that run Barrow’s boys have scored none and conceded eight.

It is now 491 minutes since Paul Rutherford scored the winner against Solihull Moors in the final match of 2018.

“It is being without a goal that concerns you most,” said Barrow after their 2-0 defeat at AFC Fylde. “The lack of scoring is baffling,” said Barrow.

“When you see the players in training and see them finishing, it baffles you that we didn’t really work Fylde’s keeper even in our good spell.

“It’s almost like we are taking that extra second to think about things.

“It is back to the training ground and working on finding the right combinations up front.”

Wrexham made three changes from their last league match with Oswell, Young and Jennings replaced by Carrington, Walker and Beavon.

“I went back to more or less the team who beat Salford City 5-1 and defeated Solihull, purely on what I had seen this week,” said Barrow.

“We signed new players. They will have another week’s training and have some practice matches. It is probably time for a few changes.

“I’ve said to them the only way to get out of this is to keep working hard and keep plugging away and you get the rub of the green, but at this moment probably the second half we didn’t work hard enough to get the rub of the green.

“We set out like a house on fire and looked more like our old selves.

“It seems like we need to score that first goal and it’s just not coming at the moment.

“I was bitterly disappointed with the second half. To make the mistakes that we did for the second goal is not acceptable.”

Rutherford, said Barrow, was Wrexham’s outstanding player against Fylde, but the team performance was below par.

More than 1,200 Wrexham fans made the trip to Fylde, but Ash Hemmings grabbed his first just before half-time and then smashed in a second a few minutes after the break.
