Sam Ricketts hailed one of Wrexham’s best away performances after their goalless Vanarama National League draw against Harrogate Town away.
The Dragons were given a major lift when they won an appeal against Luke Summerfield’s three-match following his dismissal at Sutton United and he started, while captain Shaun Pearson was magnificent at the heart of defence.
“It’s a good point given Harrogate’s start to the season, coming here and playing on 4G [pitch],” said Ricketts.
“We played really well, stood up to everything they threw at us and had two, three, four chances to win the game.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t convert any of those, but for me it was one of the best away performances of the season so far.”
Both Harrogate and Wrexham drop one place, Harrogate to third and Wrexham fourth, after being leapfrogged by Salford who claimed second by beating Hartlepool. Leaders Orient thrashed Braintree 5-1.
More than 700 Wrexham fans travelled to Harrogate and their team produced an excellent team performance.
James Jennings, Rekeil Pyke and Manny Smith missed the game because of injuries, but Wrexham produced an excellent team performance and had their chances to win the match.
They were denied by in-form goalkeeper James Belshaw, who made a series of big saves.
The contest was played at a frantic pace, with Wrexham finishing the first half strongly when Summerfield almost guided a shot into the top corner, moments before Captain Shaun Pearson headed over the bar.
The first chance of the second half took 17 minutes to arrive the Dragons’ Paul Rutherford sent a low cross into the path of Mike Fondop-Talom who couldn’t hit the target on the slide.
The visitors hit the target moments later through Summerfield’s powerfully struck free-kick, but Belshaw flew to his right and denied the midfielder.
Belshaw made an even more impressive save two minutes later, denying Fondop-Talom with a springing save after the attacker had combined with substitute Luke Young.
That save helped Town to a sixth clean sheet of the season and the home team were relived to come out of this clash with a point.
