Newtown became the latest JD Welsh Premier League to fall victim to Cambrian & Clydach’s giant-killing feats in the Nathaniel MG Cup, whilst holders The New Saints eased their way into the semi-final draw.
The Rhondda Cynon Taff side had already seen off Barry Town and Aberystwyth Town prior to their quarter-final clash with the Robins.
Cambrian midfielder Corey Shephard capitalised on a failed Newtown clearance in the 75th minute in what proved to be the only goal of the game.
Newtown had chances to go in front with Sam Phillips’ ambitious attempt striking the post early on and Steve Leslie misfiring in the first-half as Cambrian held firm, growing in confidence before snatching their second-half winner.
Cambrian & Clydach are the only Welsh League side left in the competition for today’s semi-final draw.

The New Saints remain on course to lift the trophy for the fifth-year running after putting five goals past Llandudno.
Despite Llandudno starting brightly, The New Saints had gained full control of the game by half-time with Danny Redmond’s brace and Ben Clarke giving Saints a comfortable lead.
Christian Seargeant added to their advantage four minutes after the restart, before Josh Hmami added a fifth with ten minutes remaining.
Andy Owens came off the bench to score the only goal of the game as Connah’s Quay saw off Welsh Premier rivals Bala Town.
Owens, a half-time substitute, rattled the crossbar in the 65th minute whilst Bala’s Mike Hayes had a goal chalked off in a predictably tight encounter at Maes Tegid.
Extra-time loomed with the two teams seemingly inseparable until the final minute when Owens found himself on the receiving end of Michael Bakare’s corner to head high into the roof of the net.
Last year’s runners up Cardiff Met hit Haverfordwest County for six as they made light work of Welsh League side.
Adam Roscrow claimed a first-half brace before the Met ramped up the pressure in the second period with Sam Snaith, Eliot Evans and two for Tim Parker giving Christian Edwards’ team a comfortable victory.
