Bluebirds captain Sean Morrison could be out for up six weeks after having his appendix removed this week.
Cardiff City confirmed before kick-off at Newcastle United that their skipper had an appendix operation.
He may miss another six Premier League fixtures or more, including Arsenal away at the end of this month and Bournemouth at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, February 2.
Morrison was taken to hospital suffering from stomach pains and reports say he was ’45 minutes from losing his life’ when he had emergency surgery, the Express have reported.
He was not keen to seek medical attention at first, but wife Stacey contacted club Len Nokes.
Morrison said the pain had shifted from the middle of his stomach to the lower right-hand side and Dr Nokes immediately diagnosed the potential for acute appendicitis.
Stacey took her 28-year-old husband to accident and emergency.
He was taken straight into surgery where it was discovered Morrison’s appendix had already burst – a life-threatening problem.
Surgery was a success and Morrison was sent home after two days in hospital.
Hospital staff told him that if he had arrived 45 minutes later they may not have been able to save him.
Manager Neil Warnock said that Morrison ‘had a procedure on Monday.’
Sol Bamba wore the captain’s armband against Newcastle and was partnered by Bruno Manga at centre-back. Lee Peltier stepped in at right-back.
