Haverfordwest County slotted in just behind Welsh League leaders Llanelli AFC thanks to a 2-1 win at Undy Athletic.

The Bluebirds battled to an away win against in-form, physical opposition on a difficult pitch.

Undy did an excellent job in ensuring the Causeway ground surface was playable after some awful weather and County said: “Their groundsman did a fine job producing a playable surface.”

Undy went ahead when Dan Jarman scored after 40 minutes, but then the home team had a player sent off.

The Monmouthshire club also had six other players booked, while County’s Joe Leahy and Greg Walters were also cautioned.

The Blues equalised after 46 minutes when Joe Leahy fired home, while Steff Williams fired against a post with Undy hanging on.

The winner was scored after 80 minutes when Sean Pemberton headed in from a Kristian Speake corner and lifted County to within two points of leaders Llanelli on level games.

This Saturday (January 6) the Haverfordwest Bluebirds are at home against Cwmamman United (2.30), while Llanelli travel to play Ton Pentre on Friday (January 5, 7.30pm).
