Wrexham have strengthened their squad by signing Ben Tollitt on loan from Tranmere Rovers, but he won’t be in their squad at Aldershot this afternoon.

Tollitt, a 24-year-old winner or forward, has agreed a short term loan deal with the Dragons.

He was plucked out of non-league football by Portsmouth during the summer of 2015 after some impressive first team displays at Widnes and Skelmersdale United.

The Merseyside native developed in the Everton youth system in 2013 before Pompey loaned him to Tranmere in 2016.

Tollitt helped Rovers earn promotion to League Two via the play-offs last season, having turned his initial loan from Pompey into a full transfer.

Liverpool-born winger Tollitt said: “I’ve joined a club who are on their way back up.

“My phone’s not stopped buzzing since the move was announced and the messages from Wrexham fans has meant a lot to me. The support is crazy, but in a good way!”

“I heard about Graham Barrow and the interest and asked the lads at Tranmere about it. I’d also heard about Carl Darlington, the first team coach, and a lot of the lads who had played under him spoke very highly of him.

“I want to help get Wrexham back up, as it’s similar to Tranmere last year. They shouldn’t be at this level.

“I played against Wrexham with Tranmere and the support is unbelievable. I can’t wait to get out on to the pitch in front of those fans.”

He is not be available for the game at Aldershot, but should be available for selection against Salford City at the Racecourse on Boxing Day.

“Ben is an exciting young player, a real pacey wide attacker,” says Dragons’ manager Graham Barrow. “I have watched him many times over the past few years and he gets you off your seat.”

Barrow takes his first game as permanent Wrexham manager when they play Aldershot in Hampshire.

Aldershot are facing difficult times with just 10 senior players available due to injuries and unavailability.

They sent out a youth team for their FA Trophy replay in midweek and they were beaten 7-0 by Bedford Town.

Wrexham striker Rekeil Pyke is out injured, while Doug Tharme and Jordan Maguire-Drew could also miss out. Defender Manny Smith will be assessed before the game, while Kevin Roberts could return after he was forced off against Eastleigh.
