Champions Barry Town United lifted the Welsh League trophy at Jenner Park after a six-goal performance against Ton Pentre.

Manager Gavin Chesterfield and his Barry team had already clinched the title when they took on Rhondda Bulldogs Ton in their final fixture of the season.

Drew Fahiya (3), TJ Nagi, Jordan Cotterill and an own goal gave Barry a 6-0 win in front of almost 1,000 spectators.

The atmosphere at the Vale of Glamorgan club was at a high as the players celebrated a third promotion in four seasons.

Barry will be back playing at the top level of Welsh domestic football next season.

They missed out on promotion a year ago when Cardiff Met finished top, just ahead of Barry, and went up to the Welsh Premier League.

This time Chesterfield’s team went one better, have been crowned champions and join Met in the Premier for 2017-18.

Visitors Ton Pentre, who are 12th, still have one fixture left and that is against Port Talbot Town at home next weekend.

Barry scored three goals in each half and might have added a seventh, but substitute Michael Hartley’s shot was saved.

Man of the match Fahiya, too, went close to adding his own fourth goal when he hit the bar.

Barry were presented with the trophy after the final whistle and celebrated their success with fans who were ecstatic that their team have regained their place at Welsh football’s top table.

They finished five points ahead of Penybont FC with Goitre FC third.

Third Division champions Llanelli Town extended their unbeaten record to 28 Welsh League matches and took their goals tally to 100, winning 7-1 at Dinas Powys at The Murch.

Jordan Follows scored a hat-trick, taking his tally for the season to 35 and Lee Trundle was also on target. The former Swansea City striker has netted 46 goals in 27 appearances this season.

Richard Lewis made his 100th appearance for Llanelli, 15 years after he made his debut for the club.

They have won 21 and drawn seven fixtures this season and have two more Division Three games to play. They are against Abergavenny Town on Friday, May 5 and Ammanford away the following Monday.

Llanelli have also qualified for the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup final and play Bridgend Street at Briton Ferry FC on Friday, May 12 (7pm).
