Three teams are in contention for the final top six spot in the JD Welsh Premier League with two rounds of fixtures remaining prior to the league split.

Just a point separates Barry, Cefn Druids and Llandudno going into this weekend’s penultimate round of fixtures.

Sixth position would guarantee a place in the end of season play-offs and rule out any threat of relegation.

A run of three wins from four over the festive period have lifted Barry Town up into sixth at the expense of Cefn Druids, who trail only on goal difference.

Gavin Chesterfield and his Barry side face a difficult visit to Connah’s Quay whilst Cefn Druids head in the opposite direction to face Carmarthen Town.

Llandudno sit in eighth-place and a point – a point behind Barry Town and Cefn Druids – and host Bala Town having gone three games without conceding a goal.

Iwan Williams has moved to right-back Wes Baynes from Airbus UK Broughton this week.

Newtown’s slim hopes of making the top-six cut were dashed after they handed a 3-1 defeat by Bangor City last night.

The Citizens ended a three-game goal drought after George Harry scored twice to add to Gary Taylor-Fletcher’s lead.

Two goals either side of half-time sealed The New Saints a commanding 4-1 win at relegation threatened Prestatyn Town, to temporarily move 11-points clear at the top of the table.

Friday’s results:
Bangor City 3 Newtown 1; Prestatyn 1 The New Saints 4.

Saturday’s fixtures:
Carmarthen v Cefn Druids, Connah’s Quay v Barry Town, Llandudno v Bala Town, Cardiff Met v Aberystwyth (5:15 TV game).
