Bangor City will make their fifth managerial appointment in two years this week after it was confirmed that Kevin Nicholson and player/assistant Gary Taylor-Fletcher will not be extending their current contracts which expire at the end of the season.
The future of the pair had been uncertain following the club’s expulsion into the Cymru Alliance and Director Of Football Stephen Vaughan Jr said in an official club statement that the decision had been taken mutually.
“I would like to thank both Kev and Gary for all there hard work since being at the Club. We achieved the goals we set out and they leave the Club knowing we were last season the second best team in the WPL. Together we had built an excellent squad and have made great progress over a short period of time. With the news at the end of the season that we would not be granted a Tier 1 WPL licence for 2018-2019 it was agreed mutually that we would part our ways,” said Vaughan via the statement.
Bangor City are already believed to be in advanced stages of appointing a new manager and have already scheduled a press conference for Thursday, 2pm.
Former The New Saints and Hartlepool United manager Craig Harrison has been linked with the post and his experience would be invaluable as the club strive to regain their Welsh Premier League status. Other candidates with Welsh Premier League managerial experience have also been linked.
Whoever the club appoint will be wary of what has been a revolving door for managers under the club’s current owners. Popular long-serving manager Nev Powell was unexpectedly dismissed ahead of the 2016/17 season, his replacement Andy Legg lasted just three months in the Nantporth hot-seat before making an equally as sudden exit as Ian Dawes took over the reigns. Dawes then lasted until March 2017 before being succeeded by the management team of Kevin Nicholson and Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who became the Bangor’s fourth managerial appointment of the season. Under the former Cardiff City first-team coach, Bangor won the league’s Europa League Play-Off final before finishing league runner’s up this season.
Connah’s Quay have announced that they have signed Danny Holmes from Bangor City. Holmes, 29, becomes the Nomads’ first signing as they look to strengthen once again this summer.
“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Danny Holmes to Connah’s Quay. For me, Danny was the outstanding full-back in the league last season and he further strengthens our squad going forwards,” said Connah’s Quay manager Andy Morrison.
Holmes, formerly of Tranmere Rovers, The New Saints, Fleetwood and Newport County, AFC Fylde and York City made 33 league appearances last season after joining Bangor last summer.
