Alan Sheehan says Swansea City must become more ruthless in front of goal if they are to turn solid performances into victories, as his side prepare to face Queens Park Rangers at the Swansea.com Stadium on Wednesday night (7.45pm).
The Swans were held to a goalless draw at Southampton before the international break, following a home defeat to Leicester City that ended their 12-match unbeaten streak in SA1.
Although Swansea have shown plenty of promise in spells this season, a lack of cutting edge has often prevented them from taking full control of matches.
Swansea have found the net just 10 times in their opening 10 Championship fixtures — with only four teams in the division scoring fewer.
Their expected goals total also ranks among the lowest in the league, highlighting a need for sharper finishing when chances come.

Sheehan, however, believes his players are capable of reaching another level as they look to climb the table.
“I think the points tally, what are we, one better off [than last season]? We’d like a few more points but still the points tally is fine,” the head coach said.
“Level of performance, I think we still need to get to a place where we’re more consistent in games and we want to create more chances.
“But look, there’s a lot of areas to improve on and we are still in a half-decent position.
“We’ve got no divine right to win every game but we have to respect that we know we can go up another level. I think everybody is aware of that.”

Swansea’s steady start has them 13th in the Championship — the same position as this stage last season, though with one extra point — and Sheehan insists progress is being made despite recent results.
He added that the club’s summer recruitment has strengthened the squad, but warned that the Championship demands consistency in key moments.
“I think in terms of playing the beautiful game over a course of a season in the Championship, it’s difficult,” Sheehan said.
“I think in the first 10 games we have played some good teams. We’re in a place where we’ve been in every game so far.
“I think there’s been some games where the level of performance has been good — in the [two] Sheffield games etc — and there have been parts of all these different games where we have been quite good. But we need to put the games to bed when we’re on top.”

That desire for a more clinical edge will again be tested against a QPR side who have been in strong form, losing just once in their last seven outings despite a 2-1 defeat to Millwall at the weekend.
“QPR are a team that I think have lost one in the last six games, and they’ve been very tight games,” said Sheehan.
“I watched some of the games like where they came from behind against Bristol City. It’ll be a difficult game but one that obviously we want to be going in and getting points out of.
“Our fans are excellent at home. We want them behind us, they’re so important to help us create that tempo, that atmosphere and we understand that we have to give them something as well to get behind us.”
With improved finishing and the backing of the home crowd, Sheehan hopes Swansea can rediscover the winning touch that defined their earlier unbeaten run — and prove their potential to go “up another level.”
