Morgan looking to build on good start for visit of Colchester United
Llandudno manager Alan Morgan is delighted to have finally landed new signing Sam Ilesanmi after a year of chasing the Tranmere Rovers striker.
Ilesanmi is expected to feature in tonight’s friendly against Colchester United after making his debut against Colwyn Bay midweek.
Morgan had been looking to loan the 19-year-old since last season but has been able to tie down the player down to a permanent deal following his release from Prenton Park.
Morgan has made improving the side’s attacking quality a priority this summer after his goal-shy side missed out on the WPL Play-Offs last season.
Sean Cavanagh and Toby Jones, signed from Bangor City and Rhyl respectively, have already been drafted in prior to Ilesanmi signing on the dotted line.
Ilesanmi and Jones were both on the scoresheet as Llandudno began their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win at Colwyn Bay.
“I’ve had an eye on Sam from working at Tranmere last season,” said Morgan.
“I was trying to get him on loan but to get him permanently this year is a really good acquisition for us. Sam played for us last night at Colwyn Bay and he showed by taking his goal really well that he’s keen, and from what we’ve witnessed so far there’s plenty more goals to come from him.”
Morgan was encouraged by the performance shown against Colwyn Bay and is looking forward to welcoming League 2 side Colchester United to what he hopes will be a well-attended Maesdu Park.
The U’s are managed by Morgan’s ex-teammate John McGreal and they visit Llandudno as part of a their week long training camp in Chester.
“I’m very pleased with [the performance against Colwyn Bay] you know, it’s not always easy first game back but the 22 players who featured played really well.
“Hopefully there’s still more to come and we can kick on now as we look forward to welcoming Colchester United and my ex-teammate John McGreal this Friday. It would be nice to get a good turnout from the fans as well as it was good to see so many of them behind us at Colwyn Bay, it’s important we have that positive relationship with the fans this season again as they really do act as a twelfth man when their on our side and we do all appreciate it here as staff and players. We have that buzz again this season and we’ll keep working hard to build on what we have so far.”
