Aberystwyth Town will be hoping Barry Town can deliver a festive favour in tonight’s televised game to help keep their top-six hopes on track.
Aber’s hopes of securing a top-half finish took another dent last night when the Seasiders were defeated for a successive week, losing 2-0 to Cefn Druids.
James Davies gave Druids an early lead in torrid conditions at Park Avenue before Jordan Evans sealed the Ancients the points, unleashing a classy trademark finish from the outside of the box.
That result leaves Aberystwyth on 27 points with four games remaining before the split – they will fall out of the top-six if seventh-placed Caernarfon Town (26 points) avoid defeat against Barry Town.
“We’ve trained really well this week in the lead up to Barry. It’s going to be a hellish tough game, they have a decent home record and fantastic following and rightfully are challenging at the top of the league,” said Cofis boss Sean Eardley.
“We’re on a nice little run ourselves though and the boys are in confident mood.”
Barry Town United could be in the position this evening where a win would take them top of the table going into Christmas.
Gavin Chesterfield’s side are a point off Connah’s Quay and entertain a Cardiff Met side, eighth, who have not yet given up on their own top-six hopes.
The New Saints have a five-point deficit to close on the league leaders following a run which has seen them produce just one win in their last five WPL outings.
They visit relegation threatened Llandudno, who are already seven points adrift of safety.
Only two points separate fourth-placed Newtown and seventh-placed Caernarfon.
Newtown going into this weekend’s clash with Carmarthen Town sitting ahead of Bala Town on goal difference. The Lakesiders travel to Llanelli looking for their first win in four matches.
