Joe Bennett can’t wait to see playmaker Lee Tomlin weaving his magic for the Bluebirds.

Left-back Bennett and attacking player Tomlin were pals together at Bournemouth and were room-mates on away trips.

“Tommo has that little bit of creativity that maybe we lacked as a team last season,” said Bennett after Cardiff City’s 3-1 win at Bodmin Town.

“He can play in a number of positions, in the hole, out wide and more, and is a likeable character who has already fitted into the squad really well.

“Lee knows a few of the lads and has the ability to do really well.”

Tomlin played the first half at Bodmin before making way for Kenneth Zohore and manager Neil Warnock says: “It was his first game. We wanted him to play half a game against Bodmin and another half at Plymouth Argyle on Friday.

“Then we’d like him to step up to a full game at Shrewsbury next week.

“You can see what he can do, but there are certain things I’ve got to get into him.

“At half-time I talked to Lee about one or two things I want him to work on and he knows what I want. He’s a good acquisition and we will need somebody like that when we need to unlock the door.”

Former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender Bennett was also impressed by Loic Damour’s two-goal display at Bodmin.

Frenchman Damour smashed home a shot from 25 yards and then fired a second.

“Lois looked really good, he fits in well,” says Bennett. “He is an aggressive central midfield player and is really good on the ball when he gets it to feet.

“The vibe, the feeling in the squad, is really good. We’ve come away to Cornwall which is maybe a little different, but we are all enjoying it.

“The weather has been good apart from today (Wednesday).

“Everybody is getting on well. We we to the manager’s house for a get together and we are all working hard in training, even on match days.

“We’ll be ready for the Championship season.”
