Exclusive – By Terry Phillips Hotshot striker Kenneth Zohore has made it clear he WILL be leading Cardiff City’s bid for promotion to the Premier League this season. Hull City are keen on the Danish under-21 international and a number of other clubs are monitoring the situation, but Zohore left no room for doubt in a Dai-Sport interview.
He went into 146th Open Championships at Royal Birkdale claiming he was ‘living the dream’, but not even in his wildest dreams could Welshman Stuart Manley have envisaged topping the leaderboard after his first round. The 38-year-old from Mountain Ash made the most of his early start in the second trio to tee off at 6.46am to steal a march on some of the best players in the world. His two under par round may not have kept him ahead of the field by the end of the round, but it has guaranteed him bit of a lie in on Friday morning as the others scramble to stay in touch to make the cut for the weekend.
“If it’s in the arc, it’s out the park” is a motto Glamorgan will be hoping David Miller brings with him as he joins up for the remainder of their T20 Blast campaign. The Welsh county currently occupy the fourth qualifying spot after the first four games, of which they’ve won two and lost one. The South African left-hander is no stranger to Cardiff in recent years, having last played at the SSE Swalec in the T20 defeat to England in June. He was, however, on the winning side in 2013 when he helped his country to an ICC Champions Trophy win over the West Indies in the Welsh capital.
Sean Morrison has committed to Cardiff City for another three years and says: “There’s something special happening at our club.” The Bluebirds captain has signed a new three-year contract and said today: “I made it clear that I wanted to stay at Cardiff City and the gaffer (Neil Warnock) told me he wanted me. “I’m […]
With the winds of change blowing through Welsh rugby this summer, there is now only one region left who carry a geographical label – the Cardiff Blues. Derek Redwood argues it should stay that way and any attempt to drop ‘Cardiff’ would be a mistake. There has been a lot of speculation recently about the possibility of dropping the Cardiff name as part of the need to embrace a wider geographical area for regional rugby. I ask myself why that should be either desirable or necessary? I was born in Cardiff, grew up in Cardiff and still live in Cardiff. I went to primary school in Cardiff and high school in Cardiff. My first job was in Cardiff and my next job was in Cardiff and now I run a business in Cardiff.
Tammy Abraham insists he can use his Premier League stint with Swansea City to prove he can hack it with Chelsea. The on-loan striker scored his first goal for the club on Wednesday night as the Swans beat Richmond Kickers, 2-1, in Virginia on the squad’s pre-season tour of the USA. It was a trademark close range finish from Abraham, whose goal-scoring talent is believed to be sufficient to ease some of the burden on Fernando Llorente in the opinion of head coach Paul Clement.
Joe Bennett can’t wait to see playmaker Lee Tomlin weaving his magic for the Bluebirds. Left-back Bennett and attacking player Tomlin were pals together at Bournemouth and were room-mates on away trips. “Tommo has that little bit of creativity that maybe we lacked as a team last season,” said Bennett after Cardiff City’s 3-1 win […]
Bodmin Town 1, Cardiff City 3 Frenchman Loic Damour scored twice and Danish ace Kenneth Zohore headed a third in Cardiff City’s comfortable win at Bodmin Town in Cornwall. The Guinness Pro12 is about to grow into a Pro14. It’s rushed, it’s complicated, it’s uncertain and it’s not the development in the direction some were hoping. But, Robin Davey says it’s all about more cash and claims that’s no bad thing. Just as we were thinking same old, same old and another all too familiar Pro 12 season on the horizon – basically stagnating without promotion or relegation – along comes an exciting innovation. Though time is short between now and the start of a new season, two South African teams are set to take part from September, extending the competition to a Guinness Pro 14.

Tennis Wales boss Peter Drew is hoping a record £250m investment into developing grass-roots tennis in the UK over the next decade could end the search for a potential Welsh winner at Wimbledon. The two-week long Championships at SW19 reached its climax last weekend with the women’s and men’s finals leaving tennis firmly in the minds of sport mad youngsters across the nation. And now The Lawn Tennis Association has launched its ‘Transforming British Tennis Together’ initiative to try to entice more and more people to play the game by improving facilities.
Welsh UFC fighters, Swansea’s Brett Johns and Abertillery’s Jack Marshman, collected hard fought wins at Glasgow’s Fight Night 113 last weekend. Marshman faced Ryan Janes, a Canadian whose black belt in Brazilian ju-jitsu promised a fascinating encounter due to Marshman’s preference to box on his feet. Marshman’s fate was in the judges’ hands after a gruelling three rounds could not separate the two, where all three judges scored the contest 29-28 in the Welshman’s favour.
Never mind the new Time Lord, Glamorgan’s Colin Ingram is bossing the space-time continuum of the T20 Blast. Richard Thomas steps inside the vortex to touch the hem of his sweater. After a couple of weeks in the Glamorgan Tardis, travelling back in time to remember a couple of landmark matches, it’s time to tweak the sonic screw driver and return the Police Box to the present by hailing the efforts of the current team. In particular, it’s time to laud Colin Ingram and one or two of his county colleagues who have been exterminating the opposition bowling, most notably in that incredible run chase against Essex in Chelmsford on Sunday afternoon.
