Neil Warnock insists Cardiff City can absorb the kind of hammerings inflicted by Manchester City and still survive in the Premier League. The Bluebirds manager watched as his team were severely outclassed by the champions on Saturday as they eased to a 5-0 victory that could have been even more painful. The defeat was Cardiff’s worst at home for 24 years and it leaves them in the relegation zone, still seeking their first win of the season.

John Mulvihill has admitted huge relief at his first win as Cardiff Blues coach after revealing: “We’ve been to hell and back.” After three opening Guinness Pro14 defeats – following no wins in his pre-season matches – the Australian was understandably reassured by his team’s thumping 37-13 victory over Munster at the Arms Park on Friday night. The Blues gained a winning bonus point with four tries on a night when centre Willis Halaholo reminded people why there was excitement at his arrival from New Zealand two years.

If you believe the ‘experts’ manager Neil Warnock and his Cardiff City players might as well lock their front doors and stay at home when Manchester City visit South Wales. One BBC commentator predicted a ‘goals fest’ for Pep’s boys, while Goal.Com predict, in big, bold print: “Bluebirds to struggle.” That tag-line is followed by […]
Swansea boss Graham Potter is hoping his side can benefit from a Wilfried Bony bounce when the Ivorian finally returns to full fitness in the next few weeks. The Penrhiwllan-based Spencer Sport squad head into Sunday’s penultimate round the Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship at the Welsh Motorsports Centre at Pembrey with its driver, Julian Godfrey, in a close four-way fight for the title. Driving the west Wales team’s Mitsubishi Mirage RX Supercar, Godfrey led the series until he was involved in a massive accident at Croft, which saw the car roll several times at high speed. The car was rebuilt in time for the following round, but the points lost hurt the most. Still very much in contention for the title, Godfrey is just eight points off the leader, with 30 points available for a win at Pembrey. “We’re treating Pembrey as a must-win event for us,” said Spencer Sport team manager Charlie Jukes. “To be sure of winning the title, we must win at our home track on Sunday and also win the final round at Silverstone. We have shown that our Mitsubishi Mirage RX Supercar is the car to beat this season, so winning both the final race meetings is very much achievable.”
Six games in, the early JD Welsh Premier League table will make for frustrating reading if you’re Bala Town manager Colin Caton. Mulvihill says he was encouraged by the response of his squad to their winless start to the Guinness Pro 14 season and that the frenzy he witnessed in training will be unleashed on their Irish opponents.
Joe Bennett has admitted he takes no pride in the mistimed tackle on Leroy Sane that sparked a furious row between Cardiff and Manchester City. As the Bluebirds defender prepares to meet the Premier League champions again this weekend, he has acknowledged he was initially unaware just how bad the challenge was during last season’s FA Cup fourth round tie. Bennett injured Sane and left City manager Pep Guardiola fuming in the clash at a heated Cardiff City Stadium in January.
