Newport County have launched a third raid into the JD Cymru Premier League by signing Will Evans from Bala Town. Welsh world champion Lily Rice has switched sports and will make her Commonwealth Games debut in para swimming in Birmingham later this year. Wales international centre Ashley Beck has extended his stay at Sixways by signing a new contract with Warriors. Beck joined Warriors from Ospreys in the summer of 2018 and after his first season was cut short by a broken ankle, he has become a rock in the midfield over the past three seasons. The 32-year-old made his 50th appearance against Northampton Saints at Sixways in January and has now played 59 games and scored eight tries.

Football has overtaken rugby as the most popular sport in Wales, the Football Association of Wales have claimed. The governing body have released a report which they say proves that football has swapped places with rugby as the sport most people in Wales are both interested in and participate in. “Football interest has continued to increase since research in Wales was first conducted in 2016,” say the FAW in a statement.
