Without injured Gareth Bale, Welsh hopes of goals in the Czech Republic on Friday night may well rest on the shoulders of Kieffer Moore. The Cardiff City striker has hardly enjoyed a prolific start to the season but Wales manager Rob Page insists he has kept faith, as he tells Graham Thomas. Kieffer Moore has been backed to rediscover his goalscoring touch by helping Wales move a step nearer World Cup qualification on Friday night. The Cardiff City striker has endured a lean season so far, with just one goal in 13 matches for his club following his 24 goals for club and country last season.

By Tom Prosser Wales and Juventus star Aaron Ramsey stressed the importance of being “managed correctly” ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Estonia. The Welsh playmaker has found game-time hard to come by due to a number of niggly muscle issues which have since seen him fall out of favour with Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri. During the last seven months, Ramsey has played more minutes for Wales than Juventus and hinted that his lack minutes have not helped matters related to his injury.

Ironically, the 28-year-old wasn’t picked for the Euro’s despite being in good form towards the end of last season and is now called up when his form is deserting him.

Gareth Bale has been ruled out of Wales’ World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Estonia with a “significant hamstring tear” – and may even struggle to make the November matches. Skipper Bale has not played since Wales’ goalless draw against Estonia on September 8 after being injured on his return to Real Madrid. The 32-year-old was due to win his 100th cap against the Czechs and his absence for October’s double-header deals a serious blow to Wales’ qualification hopes for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Wales match-winner Natasha Harding insisted she won’t be losing any sleep over the lack of goals as Wales kept their early World Cup campaign momentum going with a 1-0 victory in Estonia. The Reading striker scored the only goal of the game in the fifth minute in Parnu as Gemma Grainger’s side made it back-to-back victories at the start of their attempt to make the tournament finals. It was not the fluent, free-wheeling display shown in their 6-0 demolition of Kazakhstan last week, and neither was it a scoreline that did much to improve Wales’ goal difference, but Harding was unrepentant.

Gemma Grainger has promised there is far more to come after Wales began their Women’s World Cup campaign with a thumping 6-0 victory over Kazakhstan The Wales manager – who celebrated her first victory in charge at the fourth attempt after succeeding Jayne Ludlow – is determined her team build on their flying start to the qualifying campaign. After watching Wales maintain their focus into the late stages of the match to pile on the goals at Parc Y Scarlets, Grainger insisted the level of performance must be continued when Wales visit Estonia in their next qualifier on Tuesday.

By Tom Prosser Gareth Bale has reportedly suffered a long-term hamstring injury which would comes as a crushing blow to both Wales and Bale who was set to win his 100th cap against the Czech Republic next month. According to Marca, the severity of the damage which the Welshman suffered was confirmed after undergoing tests in recent days. Robert Page’s men will be hoping that his injury is not as serious as first thought as Bale will have a key role to play if Wales are to qualify for their first World Cup since 1958.

There was no Bale-out this time for Wales, but the captain still insists believes World Cup qualification is achievable even though front door entry to the tournament now looks highly unlikely. After being held at home, 0-0, by Estonia on Wednesday – an outcome Gareth Bale himself had flagged up as a possibility if his team were not spot on – Wales lost ground in the race for automatic qualification as Group E leaders Belgium were beating Belarus 1-0 in Kazan. Belgium are now nine points clear of Wales, who have two games in hand and are more likely involved in a battle for second place with the Czech Republic.
