Shane Williams enjoyed his emotional family reunion on Easter Sunday as he celebrated another winning day at the home of Welsh rugby.
The Grand Slam winner and former world player of the year scored one try and made two more as Amman United secured National Bowl success with a 43-31 victory over Caerphilly at Principality Stadium.
Williams’ early opener was a fine way for him to mark his return to Cardiff’s famous turf and the wing wizard was full of emotion after lifting the Bowl with the club where he started his career.
“It means the world to me,” said Williams.
“To play here again with my brother, my brother-in-law and my mates really means a lot. It is the cherry on the cake.
“It is any excuse to come here again, even if it’s tiddlywinks in the middle of pitch. I am here with bells on.
“I find it really difficult just watching the games here so to have the opportunity to play means a lot.
“Playing for the club I started with when I was seven years of age adds to it.”
Williams was capped four times for the British & Irish Lions and is Wales’ record try-scorer with 58.
But the now 40-year-old admitted he was just as nervous for this game as he was for the biggest matches he played in.
He added: “The boys joked that this was the biggest game of my career, they might be right.
“I was as nervous for this one as I was for some international games. I think I had more at stake then some of the other guys.”
Williams teed up his brother-in-law Gavin Lewis for Amman’s second try before rolling back the years with a magic sidestep to put Shaun Cadell into the corner for the third.
“I enjoyed seeing the other boys score more than I did,” said Williams.
“They have all worked hard for this win.”
