Rob Evans says the Scarlets are driven by a thirst for revenge as they prepare to head back to Dublin next weekend.
The Wales prop was a tryscorer as his team outclassed Glasgow, 28-13, at Scotstoun in a devastating display of counter-punching rugby to win their Guinness Pro14 play-off semi-final.
It means another visit to the Aviva Stadium for the final, scene of their Pro12 title triumph last year, but where they also came to grief against Leinster, 38-16, in last month’s European Champions Cup semi-final.
If the Scarlets can retain the razor sharp attacking thrust they showed in Scotland – where Scott Williams, Gareth Davies, Rhys Patchell and Steff Evans frequently cut holes in the Glasgow defence – then they should make their return across the Irish Sea more far competitive than four weeks ago.
Tries from Patchell, Davies, Rob Evans and Ken Owens – Patchell converting each time – did the damage, although Wayne Pivac’s side did have to withstand a late surge from Glasgow, with Jonny Gray and Nick Grigg pulling back late consolation scores for the home side.
It had been billed as a shoot-out between Pivac and Glasgow coach Dave Rennie – the two men at the top of the shortlist to replace Warren Gatland with Wales – but only one New Zealander suffered wounds to his reputation.
Evans said: “It was a devastating blow for us (losing in Europe), we wanted to put it right, and to wipe the slate clean.
“We came back into training and, thankfully, we were still alive in this competition. We’re looking forward to next week.
“We spoke all week about coming up here, we won away from home last year in the semi-final and we wanted to do it again and we’re chuffed to get a result.”
The Warriors have led the way on the domestic front all season, but they had no answers to the power and pace of the reigning champions who remain on course for a successful defence of their title.
The warning signs had been coming for Glasgow who have slipped from the heights they hit earlier in the season and the Scarlets blitzed them early in a devastating show of strength as the hosts were turned over on home soil for the first time this campaign.
