Bradley Davies could soon be on his way to join Wales at the World Cup if Cory Hill is ruled out of the tournament tomorrow.
Wales second row Hill was taken to Japan, despite suffering fracture in his leg in the build-up.
Head coach Warren Gatland had hoped Hill would be fit for Wales’ second game against Australia, but he admitted after the opening victory over Georgia that the forward might now have to return home, instead.
Asked if Hill was out of the World Cup after the opening night win, Gatland said: “Possibly”.
“If he doesn’t return to fitness, he’ll go back to the UK. We’re going to assess him tomorrow and see what sort of progress he’s made.
“If it’s not good news he’ll go back, if they think he can recover, then he’ll stay out. We’re going to assess that overnight.”
Ospreys forward Davies was left out of the World Cup squad after featuring against Ireland in the warm-up fixture in Cardiff.
Wales were down to their last two specialist locks – captain Alun Wyn Jones and Jake Ball – for the win against the Georgians.
Adam Beard is on the comeback trail after flying to Japan late following the removal of his appendix, meaning that blindside Aaron Shingler covered in the opening clash.
