George North will make his first Ospreys start in over a year after being named at outside centre for Sunday’s Welsh derby against the Dragons in Swansea. The Wales centurion made his comeback as a replacement during last Saturday’s victory over the Scarlets. He will be partnered in midfield by Owen Watkin, with Michael Collins shifting to full-back where he is joined in the back-three by Keelan Giles and Alex Cuthbert Up front, Nicky Smith and Tomas Francis line up either side of last week’s URC Player of the Match, Dewi Lake, with the British and Lions pairing of Adam Beard and Alun Wyn Jones in the second row. Will Griffiths, Jac Morgan and Morgan Morris complete the starting pack.

The Joint Supporters Group representing fans of the four regions have revealed they have been waiting for a meeting with the Welsh Rugby Union for seven months. Responding to the revelation that the WRU are considering a proposal to cut the number of regions from four to three, the JSG have claimed the culling of one of their teams may be behind the long delay. Writing on Twitter in reply to a story in The Times that reveals the reduction proposal, the JSG state: “As we’re still waiting for the date of our next meeting with the Welsh Rugby Union, the news item below may explain why we are still waiting, 7 months after the original timeframe.

By Steffan Thomas Keelan Giles’ career has been far from straightforward since bursting onto the scene as a promising 18-year-old in 2016. Back then the Gorseinon man was scoring tries left, right, and centre for Wales under 20s, before getting called into the senior squad for their tour of New Zealand that summer.

Gareth Anscombe and George North have earned praise from Ospreys head coach Toby Booth after their part in thrashing the Scarlets, 54-36. The Wales pair – who were both on different stages of the comeback road after long periods out injured – helped their side to a victory which keeps alive their Heineken Champions Cup qualification hopes. Anscombe proved he is approaching his best again after two years out with a knee injury, while North played his first match for a year following his own knee problem.

Max Nagy admits he takes plenty of stick from fellow Ospreys George North and Stephen Myler, but at least they no longer look down on him. At 6ft 4in, the rangy full back is the same height as North and five inches taller than Myler, his teammates at the region. But prior to re-uniting this season, Nagy was just a small kid seeking autographs at Flanklin’s Gardens when the three of them were last together.

Keiran Williams has often been compared to one of the great Lions centres, but it’s another more recent legend who he admits he tries to model his game on. The Ospreys centre has been likened to Scott Gibbs for his direct and dynamic power, shifting balance and quick feet in close quarters. But it is former Ireland captain Brian O’’Driscoll who Williams has studied, a more recent version of a player who eventually learned how to combine forcefulness with flair.
