Wales golfers Ffion Tynan and Darcey Harry have been picked for the Great Britain and Ireland team for the Junior Vagliano Trophy, making up a third of the six-girl squad. The Vagliano Trophy and Junior Vagliano Trophy against teams from mainland Europe will be played at Royal St George’s at the end of the month.

Wales golfers Ffion Tynan and Darcey Harry have been picked for the Great Britain and Ireland team for the Junior Vagliano Trophy, making up a third of the six-girl squad.

The Vagliano Trophy and Junior Vagliano Trophy against teams from mainland Europe will be played at Royal St George’s at the end of the month.

Tynan was part of the Wales team which won the Irish Girls U18 Stroke Play Championship this year against teams from the Home Nations and around Europe.

The Pontyclun schoolgirl also won the Scottish Girls last year.

Harry has enjoyed several top 20 finishes and was runner-up in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters.

GB&I are bidding to win the Junior Vagliano Trophy for the first time since the international match for girls was inaugurated in 2011 and Maria Dunne will captain the side for the first time in the match.

The former GB&I international has also selected Beth Coulter, Hannah Darling, Carmen Griffiths and Patience Rhodes to join the Welsh duo to play against their counterparts from the Continent of Europe.

Wales Golf chief executive Richard Dixon said, “Congratulations to Ffion and Darcey on their well-deserved selection.

“It is great for Wales Golf to provide two out of the six girls in the team for the Junior Vagliano Trophy, it shows the new group of girls coming through and the benefits of all the winter work on the Wales squads programme.”

Maria Dunne, GB&I captain, said, “I am looking forward to working with these young golfers with the aim of winning the Junior Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe for the first time.

“It will be an exciting encounter and the players are very much looking forward to the challenge of playing at Royal St George’s.”

The GB&I team for the Junior Vagliano Trophy match is:
Beth Coulter, 15, Kirkistown Castle; Darcey Harry, 15, The Vale Resort;
Hannah Darling,15, Broomieknowe; Patience Rhodes, 15, Burnham & Berrow; Carmen Griffiths, 15, Aboyne; Ffion Tynan, 16, Minchinhampton.
