- Wales’ Catrin Jones In World University Bid
Some of Wales’ best young weightlifters will be off on their travels this autumn with a trio of talented athletes heading to major championships.
All three were part of Team Wales at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, but this time they will be chasing medals at world and European levels.
For north Walian Catrin Jones, the World University Weightlifting Championships in Biala Podlaska, Poland between 20-23 September will be her third major event of the year.
She not only went to Australia in April, but also finished fourth at the Junior World Championships in Uzbekistan last month.
Jones will compete in the 53kg category, while Rhodri Thomas will act as the coach to the four strong British contingent in Poland. Meanwhile, Jordan Sakkas will compete at 105kg level at the European Junior/Under 23 Championships in October.
Sakkas also went to the Gold Coast earlier in the year, as did Tayla Howe, who will compete in the 75kg class in the Under 23 section at the same event in Zamosc, Poland, between 20-27 October.
