Lee Selby Seeks Carl Frampton Showdown After Dealing With A Proper Loss

Lee Selby wants to move on to a Battle of Britain fight against Carl Frampton after a remarkably composed defence of his world title.

The Barry fighter put aside his emotions following the death of his mother, Marie, earlier in the week to beat Jonathan Barros on Saturday night.

The successful mandatory defence of his IBF featherweight title was more than a year in the making following the postponement of the original fight in January in Las Vegas.

But now Selby has his sights on a lucrative next defence against Northern Irishman Frampton – the former WBA champion – possibly in Belfast before the end of the year.

“Frampton probably fancies (a fight) after that,” Selby (25-1, 9 knockouts) said. “It’s a fight I would absolutely love.

“If I thought about what happened at home, they would have strapped me up in a straight-jacket,” Selby added. “I never thought of pulling out. I’m a fighter, it never crossed my mind.

“In the end it’s all about fighting for the family.”

Selby may have fought with a heavy heart Saturday at the London Arena, but he took care of business handily, winning by scores of 119-108, 117-110 and 117-110.

He suffered a gash over his right eye in Round 5 following a clash of heads, but other than that, it was smooth sailing.

“Nothing in the ring fazes me. It’s a fight. You’re supposed to get cut, and I’ve got the best cuts man in the business, Chris Sanigar.”

Selby’s speed and counter-punching ability was always too much for the 33-year-old veteran Barros, who couldn’t find much success.
