Lauren Price Eyes Massive Next Fight in Wales . . . With Cardiff City As Hosts

Lauren Price is aiming to bring her next fight to Wales after securing a dominant victory over Natasha Jonas to become the unified welterweight world champion.

The 30-year-old put on a masterclass at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday night, claiming Jonas' WBC and IBF titles while also defending her WBA belt. 

Price’s triumph came in just her ninth professional bout, solidifying her reputation as the most dangerous fighter in the division.

The Welsh Olympic champion now has her sights set on facing the winner of the upcoming rematch between Mikaela Mayer and Sandy Ryan, which takes place later this month in Las Vegas.

That next showndown for Price could take place at Cardiff City Stadium, where she has already won caps for Wales as an international footballer.

"I've been told I could possibly be boxing in August," said Price.

"I want to come back to Wales, if it's not the winner of Mayer or Sandy next, I want that by the end of the year.

"I want to be active, I'm motivated and driven and I believe I can go all the way."

Mikaela Mayer, the WBO welterweight champion, has hinted that she expects to face Price before the end of the year.

Mayer took to social media after the historic all-female card in London, praising both Price and Jonas for their performance.

“All the fights on the card were highly entertaining and it was a total WIN for women's boxing!” she posted.

"I got a job to do March 29 but I fully expect to be sharing the ring with Price later this year."

Two-time Olympic champion Claressa Shields also acknowledged Price’s victory and suggested a potential showdown at 154lbs - seven pounds above the weight limit of Price’s bout with Jonas.

"I thought every judge should've had it 90-100! Price was super dominant! Congrats girl," Shields posted on X.

When asked about a possible fight against Price, Shields responded: "She's too green, my skills are too much for her. But hey 154, I think we can see it."

Trainer Rob McCracken believes Price is ready to compete for the undisputed welterweight championship in her very next fight.

With Mayer and Ryan set to clash for the WBO belt, Price hopes to face the winner and unify the division in what would be just her 10th professional fight.

McCracken is confident that she has the skills to win.

"No doubt about it. No doubt whatsoever," he told Sky Sports. "She's very talented and she's won everything in boxing so far.

"She's got quick hands, it's good for people to see how fast her hands are, the shots come from different angles and how confident she is. In just a short space of time what she's achieved as a pro, it's a brilliant, brilliant journey she's on.

"Lauren I think will be undisputed and I think she will be really, really difficult to beat for a long time yet."

Price’s performance against Jonas was widely praised, with former super featherweight champion Barry Jones calling it "punch perfect." 
The Ystrad Mynach fighter won comfortably on the judges’ scorecards with scores of 98-93, 100-90, and 98-92.

"I'll remember this night for the rest of my life,” added Price.

"Tasha's a great fighter, but I knew my speed and my feet, that's what won me the Olympic gold medal and I feel it's going to get me to the top in the pros.

"It started with [Jessica] McCaskill in May and I just feel like I'm getting better and better.

"I'll speak to [promoter] Ben [Shalom] and I want to go back to Wales, there's nothing quite like boxing at home, but this was very special and I'll remember it for the rest of my life."

McCracken acknowledged Jonas' experience and determination but believes Price is only getting started.

"They're all hard fights and you just take them one at a time but I thought Tash fought well and gave it 100 per cent. She's been at a top, top level for a number of years, Natasha, what she's achieved is incredible," he said.

"Natasha was up for it and put in a really determined performance. Obviously Joe Gallagher prepared her tremendously well. Lauren was really good.

"Lauren can go on her journey and have multiple world title fights, like Natasha did, and become undisputed and achieve lots more in the sport."
