Emma Finucane has spoken of her excitement at being right on track for the Paris Olympics after securing more cycling gold.

The Welsh track star clinched victory in the women’s keirin, securing her third gold medal at the Track Nations Cup in Hong Kong.

“I loved just riding my bike and getting stuck in,” said Finucane.

“To come away with a win is amazing and I can’t believe it.”

The 21-year-old world champion from Carmarthen executed a brilliant tactical race, entering the final lap trailing behind Japan’s Mina Sato.

With a burst of speed, she overtook Sato and surged across the finish line, leaving Emma Hinze in second place and Alina Lysenko in third.

Having already claimed the individual women’s sprint title and women’s team sprint gold earlier in the series, Finucane spoke of her excitement for this summer, saying, “It feels amazing – this is my first gold in a keirin event at this stage.”

“It puts GB women in a good step forward for the Olympics this year.”

The upcoming and final round of the Track Nations Cup is scheduled to be held in Milton, Canada, from 12-14 April.
