The British women have won the title seven times previously, own the world record, are the reigning Olympic champions, but haven’t taken this particular gold medal since 2014.

Barker, who will be heading to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games next month to compete with her younger sister, Megan, in Team Wales, is also joining Archibald in the Madison event. They teamed up together to win gold at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester in November.
