Davies Wins In Spain To End Rea’s Perfect Start

 

Chaz Davies bounced back to winning ways to end rival Jonathan Rea’s perfect start to the World Superbikes season in Spain.

The Knighton-born flier shrugged off his crash while leading Saturday’s race to end the Ulsterman’s five race winning streak.

Davies had another fierce battle with the reigning two-time champ on the Motorland Aragon track.

The Aruba.it Racing Ducati rider set the fastest lap of the race on the penultimate lap having reeled in Rea a few laps earlier.

Rea made two attempts to pass Davies on the final lap and the duo appeared to touch at the exit to turn 15.

But Davies kept his momentum on the long back straight to ease away from the Kawasaki and clinch the win by almost half a second.

It was his fourth win in sixth attempts on the Aragon track as he regained second spot in the standings but 50 points behind Rea.

Davies’ Ducati team-mate Marco Melandri was third with Tom Sykes taking fourth on the other Kawasaki.

The Powys rider had been gutted at missing out on the victory at the opening race on Saturday having take pole.
