Dai Greene Goes Back To London For Euros Boost

Dai Greene will rub shoulders with some of his biggest rivals for a medal at the European Championships in Berlin next month when he runs in the Anniversary Games on Saturday.

It is a quick fire return to the London Stadium for the former world and European 400m hurdles champion following his bronze medal for Team GB at the World Cup of athletics.

Greene’s time of 49.48 sec was a step-up from his win in the British Championships in Birmingham and he will be looking to go even faster as he continues his march back to the top.

The Wales Commonwealth Games star was pipped by Poland’s Patryk Dobek (49.02 sec) last weekend, but took a French and German scalp. On Saturday, along with British team mate Jack Green, he will face a trio of top European rivals who will no doubt be in the running for medals in Berlin.

Norway’s Karsten Worholm is the fastest man in Europe this year to date with a best time of 47.81 sec, while Turkey’s Yasmani Pello (48.31) is ranked second and Rasmus Ragi, of Estonia, is sixth (49.04).

Berlin-bound Melissa Courtney and Charlotte Arter will both compete in the 3000 metres, while Owen Smith will be hoping to actually get a run at the London Stadium this weekend having got to the start line in the World Cup for the 4 x 400 relay only to find the British team being pulled out because of a freak injury to one of the runners.

Smith runs in an all-British development 400 metres, while Jake Heyward will get another top-class race in the 1500 metres after returning from the World Junior Championships in Finland, where he finished fourth.
