Christian Malcolm Races To Coach Of The Year Prize

Christian Malcom was used to picking up medals during his outstanding career on the track, but now the four-time Olympic sprinter has been honoured for his coaching ability.

In conjunction with Stephen Maguire and Benke Blomkvist, Malcolm was named as the High Performance Coach of the Year at the UK Coaching Awards 2017 in London.

This followed the success of the British 4×100 metre relay team at this summer’s IAAF World Championships on home soil, when they set a European record in winning the gold medal.

The British quartet of CJ Ujah, Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake combined to win Britain’s first sprint relay World Championship title in 37.47 sec to pip the USA by 0.05 sec in a thrilling finish. All four British relay teams won medals in London.

“It is a privilege to be recognised as High Performance Coach of the Year alongside Stephen and Benke, especially against such a strong shortlist,” said Malcolm.

“I would like to thank the athlete’s personal coaches for their contribution,” added Malcolm, Technical Lead for Sprint Relay Teams.

“The boys produced a special performance in London. It was a memorable summer for the sprint relay team and I look forward to working with them and their coaches as they pursue further success in the coming years.”
