Chloe Tutton Takes Bronze For Wales

Chloe Tutton was just beaten to a silver medal in the final stroke of the women’s 200 metres breaststroke after leading the race early on to claim Wales’ first medal in the pool.

The bronze medal was a one place improvement on her fourth place at the Rio Olympic Games two years ago, but she will have been bitterly disappointed to miss out on second place by the fast finishing Scot, Molly Renshaw.

Canada’s Tatjana Schoenmaker, the fastest qualifier, came storming through on the fourth and final length after Tutton had led for large parts of the second and third lengths. She went on to win in 2.22.0, with Renshaw claiming the silver in 2.23.28 and Tutton having to settle for the bronze in 2.23.42.

The 21-year-old Tutton still has the 100 metres event to come and is also involved in the 4 x 200 freestyle relay. Earlier in the day Georgia Davies came home in fifth in the 100 metres backstroke, an event in which she struck silver in Glasgow four years ago.
