Time For Newport County To Get Down And Dirty in 2023

Newport County have shown they can deal with the top teams in League Two, but now it is time to get down and dirty with one of the teams around them in the bottom half of the table as troubled Crawley Town head to Rodney Parade on Monday. The fact Crawley have sacked three managers this season, sold their best player and recently had one of their directors in the dug-out tells you all you need to know about their current state. They also haven’t won a game away from home this season. In contrast, Newport’s 0-0 draw against runaway leaders Leyton Orient provided further confirmation that Graham Coughlan has got his side fighting and functioning, but with only three wins in their last 10 league outings a victory is surely due.

Newport County Face Toughest Task In League Two . . . But Know They Have The Power

Newport County’s final assignment of 2022 couldn’t be a tougher as they host the runaway leaders of League Two, Leyton Orient, at Rodney Parade on Friday night. The ‘Os’ have lost only twice in the league this season and currently sit seven points clear of second place Stevenage. Richie Wellens will bring with him a confident, competent and very much in-form side with him to Newport.

Newport County Love To Go Giant-Killing . . . But FA Cup Should Be A Moment To Take Stock

Newport County take a break from league action this weekend as they enter the potential giant-killing fields of the FA Cup, so perhaps it’s time to take stock. James Rowberry’s exit from the Rodney Parade hot seat last month had an air on inevitability about it. Rowberry remains an exciting young manager with a progressive footballing philosophy – and a classy character, as his gracious departing letter to the club demonstrated – but he was ultimately unable to cut the mustard in such an unforgiving division as League Two.

Merthyr Avoid League Opposition As FA Cup Journey Goes On

Merthyr Town’s reward for their 2-1 home win over Folkestone Invicta in the final FA Cup qualifying round last weekend is a trip to Buxton in the first-round proper next month. The Martyrs, ball No. 79 in the hat for the draw made at Alvechurch FC, were drawn to face the National League North side on the weekend of 5 November and will be gunning for another famous victory. You have to go back to 2005, when they lost 2-1 to Walsall, for the last time Merthyr had reached the first round.

Newport County have “reluctantly” decided to sack manager James Rowberry. The club’s board made their announcement on Monday, claiming they were grateful for the 37-year-old’s “passion” and commitment” but stating they will now begin searching for a successor. Swansea City’s Ollie Cooper Has Personal Reason To Look Forward To Bluebirds Derby Day Clash

Ollie Cooper is counting down the days to seeing his father Kevin again – and hopes to make it a bad day for his old man’s former club. Cooper scored Swansea City’s first goal in their 2-1 win at home to Sunderland at the weekend, a result which reinforced the Swans’ growing ascendancy as promotion candidates as well as the 22-year-old midfielder’s rapid personal progress as a vital cog in the white machine. It was a first league goal for the club and afterwards dad Kevin was soon on the phone from Malaysia to hear all about it.

James Rowberry . . . A Year Down The Road At Newport County And He’s Reached A Crossroads

A year ago James Rowberry’s life took a dramatic turn when he was offered the chance to manage his home town team, Newport County. As a first step into management following a successful stint as a first team coach at Cardiff City it seemed the perfect move. When his side delivered him a 3-1 win at Bristol Rovers on 23 October, 2021, in his first game in the dug-out, everything looked rosy.
