Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton claimed a Welsh double victory in the first round of the Boyle Sports World Grand Prix in Coventry. Price triumphed 2-0 over Jermaine Wattimena while Clayton celebrated a first victory in the event beating Ian White 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena.
Jonny ‘The Ferret’ Clayton booked his spot at the World Grand Prix after a superb run to the final of the German Championship. The Llanelli thrower claimed the scalp of reigning World Champ Peter Wright on his way to the final in Hildesheim.
Gerwyn Price saw his 17-match unbeaten run ended with a 6-5 defeat at the German Darts Championship. The 35-year-old’s hopes of a fourth successive PDC title dashed as South African Devon Petersen came from 5-1 down.
Wales’ leading darts players are to compete in the first Leighton Rees Cup to celebrate the sport and the influence of the country’s first world champion. The Petwise Leighton Rees Cup will see Wales’ top players – including the country’s world number five Gerwyn Price – do battle in Merthyr Tydfil on November 20. Premier League star and 2018 Grand Slam champion Price, former BDO world champion and Sky Sports Darts pundit Mark Webster, three-time PDC title winner Jonny Clayton and 2017 world championship semi-finalist Jamie Lewis will compete at the Penydarren Social Club.
The Red Dragon Port Talbot Darts Masters presented by Modus Darts will see Wales’ best battle it out to be crowned the king of Welsh darts. The all-Welsh line up will take place at Port Talbot’s Princess Royal Theatre on 20 June 2019.
