By Gareth James Gerwyn Price created a stir in the world of darts when he wore earplugs during his quarter-final match at the World Darts Championship, which he ended up losing 5-1 to Gabriel Clemens. The Welshman had been 3-1 behind when he came back on the stage wearing the earplugs, apparently trying to block […]
By Paul Jones ‘The Ferret’ Jonny Clayton is expecting Alexandra Palace to be rocking on Thursday night when the he tackles young darting sensation Josh Rock for a spot in the quarter-finals of the World Darts Championship. Rock showed why he is among the favourites to win the title after sensationally knocking out 10th seed […]
By David Williams Gerwyn Price booked his last 16 spot, as he eased past Raymond van Barneveld, and hopes Barney will ‘zip it’, after ending the Dutchman’s unbeaten record against the Iceman on television. It was an eventful day on Tuesday as the tournament returned from its Christmas break, with Wright becoming the biggest name […]
By Paul Jones There were plenty of questions left unanswered by Gerwyn Price’s performance, but the former Neath and Cross Keys hooker began his quest for a second world title with a ground out 3-1 victory against Luke Woodhouse at Alexandra Palace. Missing some of his usual exuberance on stage, the current world number one […]
The PDC World Darts Championship will have added Welsh six appeal this year – thanks to a record number of Welsh entrants. Forget Christmas songs on the radio or cheap tinsel and wrapping paper in the market stalls, you really know you’re feeling the winter warmth of the yuletide spirit when the world’s best step up on the oche and there’s wall-to-wall darts into the New Year. Former world champion Gerwyn Price – The Iceman – and last year’s Premier League winner Jonny Clayton will lead the Welsh challenge, but there are four other members of the darting dragonhood.
Gerwyn Price believes he is back to his best – despite having to settle for the runners-up spot at the World Matchplay in Blackpool. The Welsh thrower is back to world No.1 after the event, having contributed fully to a brilliant final which he eventually lost 18-14 to Dutchman Michael van Gerwen. Price had endured a difficult 2022 before the tournament, suffering injury and poor form.
By Paul Jones Gerwyn Price will bid to secure his place in the semi-finals of the PDC Betfred World Matchplay Darts on Friday night when he takes on Portugal’s Jose De Sousa. Price – Wales’ former world champion, now ranked No.2 in the world – faces previous Grand Slam champion De Sousa, with both players […]
By Harry Corish Despite an agonising loss in the final to Australia, Gerwyn Price has vowed to come back stronger next year and win Wales another darts World Cup. After winning the World Cup in 2020, Johnny Clayton and ‘The Iceman’ Price were looking to secure more silverware after easing through the earlier rounds against […]
You know what it’s like. Your team starts poorly, falls behind on the scoreboard, and the fan behind you lets fly with a volley of angry abuse. Fair game for those in the firing line? Not according to Stuart Taylor. Performers have had their own unique way of dealing with being heckled for years. For most, it is just an occupational hazard they have to deal with.
Gerwyn Price wants next year’s PDC Darts World Championships to be held in Wales. The deposed world champion – who lost his crown in a thrilling but painful quarter-final defeat to Michael Smith – insists moving the tournament around Europe is the solution to the abuse he and others have suffered from the Alexandra Palace crowd in London. Price, who last year became the first Welshman to win the recognised world title since Richie Burnett in 1995, had to contend with constant abusive heckling throughout his matches.
Gerwyn Price has warned his world title rivals he has plenty of room for improvement as he bids to defend his crown this week. The Welsh world No.1 is preparing to start his title defence on Wednesday, aiming to brush aside all challengers as he did 12 months ago in an empty Alexandra Palace. Price’s stunning triumph last year – when he captured his first world title – capped a remarkable seven-year rise from winning his PDC Tour Card.
By Tom Prosser Welsh darts star Jonny Clayton says he is “one really, really happy geezer” after claiming victory at the World Series Finals in Amsterdam on Sunday evening. This is Clayton’s fourth “TV major win” of the year which is astonishing considering he had never won one before the start of the year. “I’m on cloud nine and smiling from ear to ear,” said Clayton, who away from darts works as a plasterer for Carmarthenshire County Council.
