Neil Warnock is one of the favourites to take over at Cardiff City following the sacking of Paul Trollope.
Bluebirds boss Trollope was axed on Tuesday – just 24 hours after Francesco Guidolin was sacked by Swansea City.
He is the third South Wales manager axed in the space of a week with Newport County’s Warren Feeney also paying the price of a poor start.
Warnock, who left Rotherham United in the summer after saving them from relegation, is a vastly experienced manager.
But the question remains if he would want to work with owner Vincent Tan and on a limited budget.
Trollope, part of Wales’ great Euro2016 adventure in the summer, lasted just 12 games.
The 44-year-old won just two of his 11 Championship games and saw the Bluebirds lose to former club Bristol Rovers in the EFL Cup.
A club statement said: “Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Paul Trollope’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.
“We would like to thank Paul for his efforts and wish him the very best of luck for the future.
“Assistant coach Lennie Lawrence and performance director Ryland Morgans have also left the club with our best wishes. An announcement regarding Paul’s successor will be made in due course.”
The 2-0 defeat at Burton last Saturday, which left City one off the bottom of the table, proved to be the last straw.
