Strugglers Caersws and Ruthin Town Have a Chance To Climb Back

JD Cymru North

JD Cymru North

With Welsh Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy taking centre stage this weekend, just one game will take place in the JD Cymru North, as Dave Jones reports.

Bottom four sides Caersws and Ruthin Town, both on nine points, will clash at the Recreation Ground in Powys.

The visitors, who have lost their first two games under new manager Colin Caton, will be desperate to begin a fortunes revival to end a barren run of four straight defeats.

Caersws have won just once in 12 outings, so are in urgent need of a perk up themselves.

ARDAL NORTH EAST

No doubting Saturday's match of the day in the Tier 3 Ardal North East - unbeaten leaders Llanuwchllyn versus second-place Penycae.

In the last meeting of this pair in the 2025-26 season, Llan were emphatic 5-0 away winners at Afoneitha Road.

That was Penycae's last loss, having gone six without defeats since - four wins and two draws.

One suspects with that run of results, the return could be closer than the October nap hand in Llanuwchllyn's favour.

Llan top-scorer Meilir Williams is also North Wales senior football's current number one hitman on 30 goals. Penycae's main danger could be skipper Zac Davies, on 17 for the campaign.

Knighton Town face what could be a tricky trip to Dolgellau AA. Town were 1-0 home winners over the Cae Marian outfit back in August.

Bow Street should come out on top when they visit lowly Builth Wells. Bow have won five in succession.

And Cefn Albion should have the beating of Corwen, who have lost three on the bounce. Albion's recent results have been mixed, but their slip-ups have mainly happened against fellow high-flyers, as opposed to mid-table merchants like Corwen currently are.

Llanfair United versus Llandrindod Wells could go either way. Wells triumphed 2-1 at home to the same opponents in August.

Llangollen Town will be out for revenge when they host a Radnor Valley outfit which beat the Tower Field men 2-0 at The Bypass in September.

CPD Rhos Aelwyd look like a decent shout for a home triumph over bottom side Lex XI, while Llanrhaeadr have the tools to see off Kerry at the Recreation Field. Kerry did get the better of things 2-1 at Dolforgan Park in October's tussle of the teams, though.

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Having won 5-1 at Prestatyn in their last outing, Y Felinheli should have plenty of confidence when they welcome Llay Welfare to Cae Seilo in the League Cup.

These sides drew 1-1 at Felin in the league five weeks ago, so the return should again be a close one. Llay are unbeaten in eight - winning six.

Just two league matches on the roster for Saturday.

Bethesda Athletic will aim to make it four without loss when they greet an NFA outfit which beat them 2-0 in Rhyl two months ago. NFA also won at Pesda on penalties in the Welsh Cup in August.

St Asaph City lost just 3-2 at Connah's Quay Town in August and will be determined to reverse that scoreline at Roe Plas Meadows.

Asaph are bottom with only two points to their name, while Town sit 12th with just a single win in their last five.
