Seasiders Llandudno Aim to Turn the Tide Against Newtown

JD Cymru North

JD Cymru North

Can Cymru North leaders Llandudno bounce back from their first league defeat of the season when they visit high-flyers Newtown on Saturday?

The Seasiders' 16-match unbeaten record perished last time out when they crashed 3-1 at CPD Y Rhyl 1879 on New Year's Day.

Tudno will seek a quick recovery at a Newtown side lying fourth but currently on a five-game run without a league victory.

The teams will meet for a fourth time this season. In the league back in September, Llandudno triumphed 2-0 at the Go Goodwins Stadium and were also 6-3 winners at Latham Park in a Nathaniel MG Cup tussle in November.

Newtown have got the better of their next opponents once - on penalties at the Go Goodwins in a Welsh Blood Service League Cup scrap at the end of August after a 1-1 draw.

Tudno have brought in some new additions in the January window, including forward Cammron Morris, midfield man Sam Downey and defender Nick Grogan.

Third-place Airbus UK Broughton will target a third win of the campaign over Holyhead Hotspur when the Wingmakers visit the New Stadium on Saturday.

Mark Allen's side have already seen off the Holy Islanders 4-0 at home in the league and 5-2 away in the JD Welsh Cup this term. Hotspur's form has improved considerably since those losses, though.

Holywell Town have a double in their sights when they make the journey to Ruthin Town.

Johnny Haseldin's second-placed side whipped Ruthin 5-1 at home in August.

However, with four fresh faces on board this week all with the christian name Tom - Roberts, Dyer, Weyman and Mann - plus a couple of uplifting results under new boss Colin Caton, the Vale of Clwyd side could make it tough for the Wellmen.

Two promoted teams on the rise - Brickfield Rangers and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 - lock horns at Clwyedog Park.

The pair have shared a couple of tight battles so far this season - 0-0 in the league, while the Lilywhites edged a 1-0 success in the JD Welsh Cup.

Buckley Town's recent dip in form will be of concern when they arrive at Flint Mountain, who have lost their last two.

The Bucks won the reverse fixture 3-0 in August.

The bottom two sides are in combat when Gresford Athletic greet Penrhyncoch, but both will enter Saturday's encounter on a high.

Bottom team Penrhyn are four unbeaten, while the Colliers earned a morale-boosting 3-2 verdict at Denbigh Town on New Year's Day.

By contrast, Mold Alexandra and Denbigh Town, who will be the main protagonists at Alyn Park, are both in need of a tonic.

Mold have not won in six, while Denbigh have endured back-to-back losses.

Guilsfield v Caersws could be a good one. Although Guils are higher in the table, Caersws are showing better form at present.

ARDAL NORTH EAST

After falling to their first league loss of the campaign before Christmas, leaders Llanuwchllyn will be determined to start 2026 on a positive note when they host fifth-place Cefn Albion this Saturday.

Llan were 5-2 winners over the Cefners back in August.

Dolgellau Athletic, the team who ended Llanuwchllyn's long undefeated streak last month and followed up with a 4-0 beating of Kerry, chase a third win on the bounce when they entertain Penycae, who will no doubt be keen to impress new manager Dan Richards.

Dolgellau, meanwhile, have suffered the blow of losing top-scorer Osian Morris in the transfer window to Brickfield Rangers of the Cymru North.

Dol and Pen shared a thrilling 4-4 draw at Afoneitha Road back in November, so what happens in the return?

Third-place Knighton Town look a good shout to make it eight without defeat when they visit a Kerry outfit who have lost three in succession, while bottom side Lex XI are likely to find it difficult when they welcome Builth Wells to Stansty Park.

Llangollen Town and Llandrindod Wells split the honours 2-2 at Tower Field three months ago and another draw might be the pick for the return at The Broadway.

Llanfair United versus Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant is another potential draw and it could well be the same outcome when Radnor Valley play home to Rhos Aelwyd, the teams having taken a point each from both of their last two meetings.

In the Ardal North League Cup, Corwen are home to Bow Street. The last two tussles between the sides finished 5-0 and 4-0 to Bow. Can Corwen upset the odds and claim revenge?

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Having drawn one another in the FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-finals this week, Llangefni Town and CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 will get an early look at each other in a league match-up at Cae Bob Parry on Friday night.

The teams have already clashed once this term in the league, City winning 4-0 at home back in November. Leaders Bangor are unbeaten in 14, but Cefni are more than capable of giving them a test.

Also on Friday, Prestatyn Town's first game under new manager Aden Shannon is a tricky one at Connah's Quay Town, whose home form has been generally good.

On to Saturday, title hopefuls Porthmadog can expect a major hurdle when they travel to Rhyl side NFA, always a formidable force at home. The teams played out a 1-1 outcome at Y Traeth back in November.

Llanrwst United picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Bethesda Athletic two months ago and another split verdict seems a decent call on Saturday at Parc Gwydir.

Llay Welfare have lost just one of their last 11 - and that was to next opponents CPD Y Felinheli in the Ardal North League Cup.

The Welly tackle Felin again on Saturday in the league at The Ring. Could be an interesting one.

Next-to-bottom Penmaenmawr Phoenix slumped 3-0 at Pwllheli at the end of August, so  the Cae Sling side will be fired up to turn the tables in Saturday's rematch.

With nine wins in their last 10 matches, Trearddur Bay must have a decent chance of adding another W to the record when they take on Mynydd Isa on away territory.
