Llanelli Town Denied Victory in Stoppage Time And Remain Adrift at the Bottom of Cymru Premier

Teenager Jac Norris delivered in the JD Cymru Premier - announcing himself with a landmark strike that nearly lifted struggling Llanelli Town to a shock victory.

Teenage midfielder Jac Norris delivered the moment he has been chasing all season, announcing himself in senior football with a landmark strike that nearly lifted struggling Llanelli Town to a long-awaited victory.

The Newport County loanee, making his 13th appearance for the club, produced a performance brimming with drive and confidence as the JD Cymru Premier’s bottom side battled for a precious 1-1 draw against Caernarfon Town.

Norris needed only five minutes to make the breakthrough, pouncing for his first goal and igniting Stebonheath with the kind of fearless energy that has quickly made him a fans’ favourite.

This meeting bore no resemblance to the heavy 6-1 defeat suffered by Llanelli in north Wales earlier in the campaign.
Instead, Norris turned the contest into a far more even affair.

For almost the entire match, it looked as though his maiden strike would deliver a result that could breathe life into the club’s survival push.

Llanelli defended with grit and discipline, clinging to their advantage until the final seconds of added time.

But heartbreak followed when Caernarfon substitute Josh Lock surged into the area and squeezed a low finish into the far corner to level deep into stoppage time.

“It was not only my first goal in the Cymru Prem but my first in men's football. It’s a really positive start for me and a good goal,” said the 19-year-old Norris, whose confident showing underlined why Llanelli rate him so highly.

Lock admitted afterwards: “I was disappointed not to start but happy to score the goal at the end and rescue a point.

“They made it very hard for us because they were very direct and their front two caused problems for us,”.

His equaliser — only his second of the campaign — ensured the visitors returned north with something to show for their late pressure.

For Llanelli, the draw ends a run of seven straight defeats, but their position remains precarious.

Haverfordwest County’s much-needed 1-0 success over Colwyn Bay — their first home win of the season — widened the gap between the bottom two to seven points.

Rhys Abbruzzese struck just past the hour to lift the Bluebirds to 10th, while Flint Town United slipped to 11th.
Elsewhere, the title race saw one man extend his dominance.

Jordan Williams, in blistering form for The New Saints, netted twice as the champions cruised to a 3-0 victory away at Flint.

The midfielder’s season tally now sits at an astonishing 16 goals in 16 games, far outstripping his scoring rate in any of his previous four campaigns.

“Flint are a good team. The table lies a bit when you look at them because they gave us a good game when they came to us earlier in the season, and we’re just happy to come away with the points,” Williams said after another clinical display.

Ben Clark opened the scoring before Williams struck in the 33rd and 55th minutes — the latter gift-wrapped by a misjudged defensive header from Isaac Lee.

Flint manager Lee Fowler was blunt about his side’s costly errors.

“The goals that are going in are all very similar and are down to individuals making mistakes at bad times which are really costing us,” said Fowler.

“We are giving teams goals. We gave Penybont three goals, Cardiff Met four, and we’ve just got to be better.

“We can match teams in this league in terms of physicality and on the ball, but ultimately the lads have really got to start understanding their jobs, roles and responsibility in the team.”

Penybont, meanwhile, returned to winning ways thanks to goals from their prolific pairing of Noah Daley — who hit double figures with his early second-half strike — and James Crole, who added a second midway through the period.

Bala Town reduced the deficit through Olamide Ibrahim deep into stoppage time, but Penybont’s win stretched the gap between second and third after Caernarfon were held by Norris-inspired Llanelli.

The weekend schedule was also disrupted by the worsening weather.
Friday’s meeting between Cardiff Met and Briton Ferry Llansawel was postponed, as was Connah’s Quay Nomads’ clash with Barry Town United.

As a result, the Nomads now find themselves two fixtures behind their rivals near the top of the division.

But the standout story of the round belonged to a young midfielder at the foot of the table.

Norris’s breakthrough moment — and his commanding display around it — offered Llanelli a glimpse of hope in a tough season.

If he builds on this first goal the way he built into Saturday’s contest, the Reds’ fight for safety may yet have a spark to cling to.
