The Wales international’s superb winner against Portsmouth in midweek coincides with the club finally receiving the green light for head coach Matos’ full backroom staff to join him.
Cullen struck a stunning effort in midweek to seal a 1-0 home victory over Pompey, securing back-to-back Championship wins for Swansea for the first time since April.

The goal capped another energetic performance from the academy graduate, who has been ever-present since Matos arrived, and the head coach made clear just how valuable he views the player nicknamed by fans, the Kilgetty Messi.
“It was a brilliant shot from Liam, again, a very good goal,” said Matos.
“Liam is someone who wants to give his best for this club, then someone who wants to enjoy his football and he needs to be that because he has qualities that can really help the team.
“I think we are seeing them now. I want him to have more impact on the game for the future and the way he plays being more influential, not just more positional.
“He's a player who understands the game well and that allows him to play in different positions.
“And sometimes it's hard as well for a player who plays in different positions to have consistency. So, I'm really happy for him because it was a wonderful goal.
“He has played in every match since I arrived here and I'm really happy to have him. That's the most important thing.”

Cullen’s versatility has sparked discussion about his role for club and country, with Wales manager Craig Bellamy recently deploying him in midfield rather than as a striker. Matos says that variation is a reflection of both squads having different needs.
“It's different. The national team has different players, so Craig should use him when he believes he's the got the best way to get most out of Liam. We have different players as well, so we will try to take the best out of him.
“What is good for Liam is that he's a really smart kid and he understands what he can do.
“And when he starts enjoying his football, that will be massive for him, I think. And I'm really happy it was a wonderful goal and we are getting used to these goals as well, so that's good.”

While Cullen’s revival has been one of the early hallmarks of Matos’ tenure, the head coach is also close to welcoming the rest of his trusted colleagues from Portugal — a development he believes will strengthen the club long-term.
Swansea have been waiting for clearance for Diogo Medeiros, Toze Mendes and Goncalo Ricca, all part of Matos’ team at Maritimo, to begin work in the UK.
Delays from the Home Office and the Football Association left uncertainty over whether the appointments would be approved, but Matos now expects their arrivals to be confirmed imminently.
"These things are going to get sorted out," Matos said.
"[It is] nearly done… but I think everything will be finalised before the Wrexham game and we [can] then update with everything."
Since his appointment last month, Swansea greats Leon Britton and Joe Allen have stepped in on a short-term basis to assist Matos during the transition period.
They are set to step aside once Medeiros — Matos’ long-serving assistant — along with Mendes and Ricca officially join the staff.
Their integration will come alongside long-standing coach Kristian O’Leary and head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson, both of whom will remain part of the reorganised setup.
"It should be good [when the appointments are made]," Matos added.
"It's always good when you can have the full support of your staff and to have an idea as well to improve the club in all departments.
"I think that's what we as a club decided to do as well. We're really pleased how it has been so far and we will make it in a better way I think."
Swansea sit 18th in the Championship following home wins over Oxford United and Portsmouth, with Cullen’s latest match-winning moment arriving as the squad heads into a busy festive period.
Matos has confirmed he has a fully-fit group available for Saturday’s trip to Stoke City, where he hopes the recently rediscovered momentum — and Cullen’s growing influence — can continue.
