Immovable Airbus Face Unstoppable Holywell . . . and Something Has to Give

Two unbeaten sides will clash head on in a huge top-of-the-table six-pointer on Friday night in the JD Cymru North.

Current Cymru North leaders Airbus UK Broughton host third-place Holywell Town at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

Both teams have a record of seven wins and a draw, with the Wingmakers possessing the better goal difference.

The pair last met in May, when Airbus whipped the Wellmen 4-0 in the NEWFA Challenge Cup Final.

In the league last season, Airbus were emphatic 8-3 winners at home, but Holywell edged a narrow 2-1 verdict at Bartons North Wales Stadium.

Friday's tussle will see two of the league's most prolific marksmen in opposition - George Peers of Airbus and Holywell's Jamie Breese. This one could end up very close.

Also on Friday, Denbigh Town and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 will meet for the third time this season.

The previous two battles were in cups, produced a win apiece and both went to penalties.

Denbigh triumphed 11-10 on spot kicks after a 2-2 Nathaniel MG Cup draw at Rhyl's Hops and Barley Community Stadium.

The Lilywhites gained revenge four weeks later at the same venue in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup. The Denbighshire rivals shared a 1-1 split before Rhyl advanced 5-4 on pens.

With Denbigh lying fifth and 1879, who became the first team to take a point off Holywell this season last weekend in seventh, another draw could very well be on the cards.

Completing Friday's trio of games, Buckley Town will be out for retribution when they welcome Newtown to The Globe.

Back in August, the Powys Robins won a Nathaniel MG Cup tie 3-2 on the same ground.

Depending on the Airbus-Holywell result, Llandudno could take over top spot with a victory at Mold Alexandra on Saturday.

Second-place Tudno are unbeaten in eight matches, winning seven and to date have conceded just a single goal.

Since 2022-23, these teams have met on seven occasions with Mold winning five, but on the present form guide, the Alex will start second favourites for this latest match-up.

Struggling Ruthin Town have won their last two home meetings with Guilsfield and would dearly love to make it a treble in Saturday's contest at the Memorial Playing Fields.

Sixth-place Guils are in decent form and will be expected to claim at least a point.

Brickfield Rangers will be ultra determined to bounce back from last weekend's 4-1 loss at Guilsfield when they host fellow promoted side Holyhead Hotspur, who have yet to record a league win this season.

Having broken their duck for the season last time out and lifted themselves off the basement, can Flint Mountain pull off another positive result away to a Caersws side just a place above them?

Bottom team Penrhyncoch will be anxious to pick up a first win in nine attempts this season when they greet inconsistent Gresford Athletic at Cae Baker.
