Hungry Holywell Town and Airbus Aim to Take a Bite out of Llandudno's Lead

JD Cymru North

Holywell Town could well go top of the JD Cymru North with a win at CPD Y Rhyl 1879 on Friday night, as Dave Jones reports.

JD CYMRU NORTH

With JD Cymru North leaders Llandudno involved in a Nathaniel MG Cup semi-final against holders The New Saints on Saturday, both Holywell Town and Airbus UK Broughton have a chance to overtake the table-topping Seasiders.

On Friday, the second-placed Wellmen can claim the summit with victory at CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

The Lilywhites were the first team to take a point off the Wellmen this season when they earned a 1-1 draw at the Bartons North Wales Stadium in late September.

Since their promotion to Tier 2, ninth-place Rhyl's form has been mixed, while Holywell have lost just once in 15 outings and are unbeaten on their travels.

Airbus, meanwhile, have hit a rocky patch with just four points gathered from a possible last 12, and on Saturday the Wingmakers in third are likely to face a good test at 10th-placed Brickfield Rangers.

Five of the seven Cymru North matches this weekend take place on Friday evening.

Buckley Town will be anxious to bounce back from a stunning 6-0 defeat last time out at previously winless Penrhyncoch when the Bucks host Gresford Athletic.

Denbigh Town's last league encounter saw them devastate Airbus with a 3-2 victory at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium - the Wingmakers' first-ever home loss in Cymru North.

Town would love to repeat the dose when they host a Guilsfield outfit on a streak of seven games undefeated.

In October, Denbigh lost 2-1 at Guils, so revenge will be on their minds at Central Park.

Can Penrhyncoch build on last weekend's shock six-goal caning of Buckley when they visit high-flyers Newtown?

And what chance Colin Caton celebrates his first win as Ruthin Town manager when the Vale of Clwyd side welcome a Holyhead Hotspur starting to catch fire after going 10 without a victory at the start of the campaign?

Onto Saturday, Flint Mountain will be out to go one better at home in a rematch against Caersws, where they drew two-apiece in October.

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Leaders Llanuwchllyn appear to be a good shout to collect three points on Saturday at Radnor Valley, who were beaten 3-0 in their last home fixture against Cefn Albion.

Second-place Knighton Town should have the beating of lowly Builth Wells, while in-form Penycae, who lie third, look a decent call to outscore visitors Llanfair United.

Rhos Aelwyd could certainly grab a point at Bow Street, the Wrexham area side having picked up a handy 2-2 result at Knighton on their last away journey.

After narrowly losing in their Wrexham-area derby at home to Penycae last weekend, Cefn Albion have the ability to turn the tide on their visit to Kerry.

Corwen, without a win in three, might fancy their chance of a home win against next-bottom Llangollen Town, although the Tower Field outfit did celebrate their first league victory of the campaign against basement boys Lex XI last Saturday.

Struggling Lex XI will do well to take anything when they entertain Dolgelllau Athletic, although the Law did upset their opponents in the Ardal North League Cup in October with a surprise 2-1 success at Cae Marian.

Dol had walloped Lex 6-2 on the same ground back in August in the league, though.

Llandrindod Wells and Llanrhaeadr are both coming off the back of defeats and their meeting at The Broadway could well finish all-square.

ARDAL NORTH WEST

There is a great battle in store at Bangor City Stadium on Saturday where sixth-place Trearddur Bay host a Porthmadog side which who grab top spot with a win.

Bay have won six on the bounce with boss Campbell Harrison named Ardal North West Manager of the Month for November.

Back in September, Trearddur defeated Port 3-1 at Y Traeth in the Ardal North League Cup.

Having already won 5-2 at Mynydd Isa in August, Llay Welfare will be favourites to make it a league double when they greet he same opponents at The Ring.

Welfare are undefeated in eight, six of those matches resulting in wins.

After getting caned 5-0 at home by Prestatyn Town last weekend, Pwllheli will make the long trip to Rhyl to face NFA as second favourites.
