Brian Flynn has returned to Wrexham as assistant manager to Bryan Hughes to help their promotion push back into the Football League.
After a 21-year playing career, making 100 league appearances for Wrexham, he became player/manager in 1989 before going on to manage the club for 12 years including the famous FA Cup victory over Arsenal.
“I am delighted to return and support Bryan at a club that is very special to me,” said Flynn after joining the National League table-toppers.
”I am coming in at an exciting time and my immediate focus will be looking to help Bryan and the club build momentum over the last couple of months of the season.
“I feel like I’ve some unfinished business at the club and would love nothing better than to help the club back to the Football League.”
Manager Hughes said: “Getting in the right management support at this time of the season was a critical early decision for me and Brian was always my number one choice.
“He knows me and the club inside out and can come in and hit the ground running. I am delighted that he has accepted my offer to come back to Wrexham where he enjoyed so much success in building the club.”
Port Talbot-born Flynn, 63, Flynn was Wrexham manager for the FA Cup victory over Arsenal and won the Welsh Cup, the FAW Premier Cup three times and led them into Europe.
Flynn went on to manage Swansea City, Wales Under 21’s and briefly the Welsh Senior side before replacing Dean Saunders at Doncaster Rovers in 2013.
He went on to win promotion as League One Champions before taking up the role of ‘Director of Football’ in the Championship. Recently, he has been working as a scout for the Swans.
