Former Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony will silence the boo-boys and prove to Pep Guardiola he has a future at Manchester City.
The Ivory Coast hit-man has failed to live-up to his £28million price tag since his move to the Etihad in January last year netting just six goals in 36 league games.
Bony was even booed by his own fans last season but former Swans team-mate Leon Britton insists Bony has the ability and character to ride out the abuse and impress the new boss.
Midfielder Britton, 33, said: “Maybe things haven’t worked out as well as Wilf would have liked in the 18 months or so he’s been at City.
“It’s difficult when you are getting booed by your own fans and it’s very tough to take, but Wilf is a very tough character and he won’t let things like that that affect him.
“He is a strong boy and will be looking at the new manager coming in this summer as an opportunity to try and impress him.
“The good thing with Wilf was that he was very professional and he will keep going and try and make it work at Manchester City.
“He is a good enough player to impress Guardiola and when a new manager comes in it’s always a clean slate for everyone.”
Bony was a big hit in Swansea after his record-breaking £12million move hitting 25 goals in 54 league games to get his big-money switch to City.
But he was always going to struggle to displace Sergio Aguero as No 1 striker and has fallen behind Kelechi Iheanacho in the pecking order putting his future in doubt.
The Swans have been linked with a move this summer to bring the fans’ favourite back to the Liberty Stadium, but his huge wages could be a stumbling block.
But Britton added: “Wilf for us was fantastic, not just his goals which were very important, but he was a big character off the pitch.
“It was a big loss for us when he left.
“I don’t know what’s happened at City, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out at clubs for whatever reason.
“He will try to make it work, but if it doesn’t and he does leave them I’m sure the next move he gets will definitely work out for him.”
