Ardal North East Hots up as Llanuwchllyn go to Penycae

Ardal Northern Leagues

With no JD Cymru North fixtures this weekend due to JD Welsh Cup second round engagements, the northern focus turns to the Tier 3 Ardal Northern Leagues on Saturday, as Dave Jones reports.

Match of the day in Ardal North East is the visit of table-toppers Llanuwchllyn to fourth-place Penycae.

The leaders are still unbeaten this season after eight matches, but suffered a disappointing home FAW Amateur Trophy exit at the hands of Llanrwst United last Saturday.

Llanuwchllyn will be anxious to bounce back at Afoneitha Road, but Penycae are undefeated in their last four league encounters and no doubt have aspirations to upset Saturday's guests.

Second-place Cefn Albion have gone off the boil  with two very surprising heavy home defeats in succession against CPD Y Felinheli in the FAW Trophy (1-5) and then last weekend going down 4-0 to Llanfair United in the league.

Albion will be determined to turn the tide when they travel to third from bottom Llanrhaeadr on Saturday.

Managerless Corwen, who parted ways with Adam Galdo this week, face a tricky visit to Llandrindod Wells, while boosted by last weekend's emphatic win at Cefn Albion, Llanfair United may fancy their chances of a home triumph versus Rhos Aelwyd.

Knighton Town, still unbeaten and in third spot, will target a quick double over Kerry when they host The Lambs at Bryn-y-Castell. Last month, Knighton won on penalties at Kerry in the Ardal North League Cup.

Bottom side Lex XI, still without a win, will hope the addition of some new talent this week will improve their hopes of getting something at Radnor Valley.

In Ardal North West, Llangefni Town can grab top spot if they pick up three points at Connah's Quay Town.

With top two Porthmadog and CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 both in Welsh Cup combat, third-place Cefni are in a position to claim the summit when they take on a capable Connah's Quay outfit who have won their last two at home in the league.

Llanrwst United, no doubt buoyed by last week's FAW Amateur Trophy win at Ardal North East top side Llanuwchllyn, look a good bet for success at home to St Asaph City, who they beat 3-1 away in the Trophy last month.

Llay Welfate achieved an outstanding 2-0 home victory over previously unbeaten Llangefni Town last weekend, and the Wrexham side will have more riches in their sights when they welcome CPD Pwllheli to The Ring on Saturday.

Having lost three on the bounce, NFA will be fired up to regain the winning habit when they host a Bethesda Athletic team the Rhyl-based outfit pipped on penalties in the Welsh Cup back in August.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix are still without a single win since their promotion to Ardal North West this season. Can they break their duck when they visit CPD Y Felinheli?

Felin have had a mixed bag of results in recenr weeks, but when they are good they are very good, as they proved in away wins over Cefn Albion in the FAW Trophhy and Bethesda in the Ardal North League Cup recently.
